Käesoleva uurimistöö eesmärk on mõista, mis on identiteedi kujunemise peamised põhjused ning miks sama generatsiooni esindajate identiteet võib olla erinev. Analüüsides Joy Kogawa romaani “Obasan” on võimalik välja tuua kolmanda põlvkonna identiteediprobleemid ning identiteeti kujundavad faktorid. Töö koosneb neljast osast: sissejuhatusest, kahest peatükist (kirjandusülevaade ning empiiriline osa) ja kokkuvõttest.
